Update all segments - auto update?
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:11:48 PM »
I am creating the facade of a building using a poly object of a single window unit within a railclone object.

As the design develops, more detail is being added to this polyobject. There are many RailClone objects referring to this same polyobject. How can I have the RailClone automatically update the object as it is modified? At the moment, it seems I have to click on 'update all segments' within each poly object.
Kind Regards,
Rich

The RailClone objects should be updated automatically when the polyobject changes. If not, something is not working correctly.

Please, send me a scene including the polyobject and a couple of RailClone objects. I will take a look to it.

It seems to be that if I alter the pivot of the segment, I must manually update the segments in each railclone object.

Attached is the test file I am working on.

Also, with this file, how do I tell RailClone to use the object 'E_FrameMainAlt' for the corner pieces (so the last element on each facade is the 'E_FrameMainAlt' polyobject)?
Kind Regards,
Rich

Yes, unlike geometry, all pivot changes on the referring objects must be updated manually. This limitation is because in 3dsMax don't store any pivot information into object level. Instead this information is store on the scene node for each different object instance.

To change the object pivot used by RailClone you have several options:

  • Move the pivot and use the "update" button in RailClone
  • Move the geometry points instead pivot
  • Use the displacement control inside Railclone

Due RailClone uses the object origin as referenec for construction, the first or second options are preferred.
