RailClone and VRay instances
« on: February 05, 2011, 03:05:48 PM »
How does it know what it can and can't instance?

Once the object is built, RailClone identifies what pieces doesn't need to be deformed and instances them. This process is automatic and transparent to the user, but by default it always creates instances from segments with Bend and Slice parameters to off, and proxies.

As exception, the Segments with the 'Nest' parameter enabled cannot be instanced.

We have included in the beta a debug mode, to identify visually from the render what pieces are instanced:

1) Set seed value to 9999
2) Apply to the RailClone object a Multi-sub material, that includes a material with ID = 100

The instances will be rendered using the Material ID 100.

In the attached sample image, you can see how the pieces that don't require deform or slice are rendered in blue color.

Thanks for the tip. Using this, I was able to make more of my segments instances without sacrificing quality (ie. I made columns not-taper to meet the underside of my track)
