wall gutter
« on: May 26, 2011, 11:25:55 AM »
I'm trying to create roof and wall gutter but have problems with corners. Is Curve Steps supposed to add edges to the geometry to algin to curved path or I misunderstand it? I tried everything but geometry doesn't bend like my path.

No, Curve Steps have not any effect on the geometry, this parameter defines the smoothness of the spline. It is exactly the same as the Interpolation->Steps parameter on the spline object, but allows values greater than 100 (useful for some objects).

To bend the tube, you should to refine the object adding more segments along its length. For the corners, enable the 'Bevel' mode on the Geometry rollout.

Alternatively you can use a shorter tube, and a custom piece for the start/end and corner positions. The length of the middle piece is not critical because the plugin clones and slices the geometry where needed. I've attached a sample scene using this technique.

An useful trick: create always the RailClone object and the base spline on the XY plane. It's more easy to define the aligments, pivots and understand the behaviour of the plugin. Once finished, you can apply it to the final spline (which may be in any plane or orientation).

Thank you kindly Carlos ! Also for the Tip because when I was creating geometry, my pivots where always messed up.
I hope there will be some help file available for railclone in the future so I don;t feel stupid asking simple questions :)

In the next days we will update the online reference, because some features of the beta (as Curve Steps), are not documented yet.

To learn the concepts of RailClone, the Wall Tutorial is a good start point because it uses the main features of the plugin. Anyways, i want to complement it with a basic construction guide, putting together some tips as the XY plane, that are not included in other documents.

Meanwhile, please feel free to ask all your doubts here. We will pleased to help you, and the information is useful for all the users. ;)

Carlos I'm sorry but where I can find "online reference" you mentioned? I only see video tutorials.

The online reference is here:

You also can see this basic guide for getting started with the plugin:
