Placing Markers, prefered distance input
« on: November 07, 2021, 02:16:19 AM »
I`m testing the Markers Placing method and I have some ideas:

-Each Marker remembers the state that was last used, but it will be nice to have an option to choose which option will be preferred as an initial input method for positioning markers, Percentage, or Distance. Maybe to add some preference selection in `Customize RC Spline Modifier`. Now, the initial input method is Percentage and I personally prefer Distance input.

- When placing with the "Plus" button each marker is placed at 0% position. Sometimes that causes overlapping markers (if we add extra one without notice).
It will be great to have some kind of temporary Pop-Up field after pressing "Plus" to enter the position percentage or distance value (previously defined as preference selection in `Customize RC Spline Modifier`).

- When arranging markers via Viewport selection/move (isolated spline for a clear view) it will be great if we could Snap-on Markers so it will be easier to precisely enter a new position. As a workaround, I temporarily place a plane to have geometry to snap on.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will discuss it with our team.

Meanwhile, i modified the code to remember the 'Type' of the selected marker, when adding new items (that was easy).
In this way, you only have to change the type one time, when adding the first marker. I hope that helps.

Hi Dragan, just a quick question about your last point. Could you let us know a bit more what you'd like to snap to please? I just tested with snapping to geometry and it seems to work, and snapping to verts in the spline works too.

Are you wanting to snap to other existing markers?

Cheers,
Paul.

Yes, Marker to Marker.
I want to isolate just the Spline in the viewport and then arrange the Markers themselves.
I snap Marker to Marker and enter local X value to move Marke.

Imagine arranging kitchen cabinets. Each marker is a cabinet. I have 15 markers placed on the spline.
- I want to move all markers from the 5th to the left for 63cm.
- Select all markers I want to move at the same time.
- Lock Selection
- Pick the 5th marker and snap to the previous (4th) and enter X value=64

The bottom line is: can the Markers be snappable?  ;D

Thanks for clarifying that. We'll investigate and see if it can be done.

Thanks again for all the feedback,

Paul
