RailClone Pro (*) / Re: VrayMultiSubTex - Instancing Engine

Hi,

First, I’d like to point out that RailClone includes the RailClone Color map, which - especially when used in combination with the Material and UVW XForm operators - offers a wide range of options for randomizing textures and maps.

If you still prefer to use the VRayMultiSubTex map, note that for some modes, the RailClone object should be treated as a standard 3ds Max object. This can be done by disabling the Instancing Engine, which makes the necessary data accessible to that map. However, certain modes - such as Get ID from: Random > By instance ID - should work without needing to disable the Instancing Engine. That said, I wouldn’t consider this a bug - it’s more of a partially supported feature, due to the way RailClone handles geometry. For best results, we recommend using RailClone’s native tools. Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Hi Itoo Team,

I was wondering if you could help me understand what's going on here. Check out the graphic.

Thank you!

Thank you very much for that example.

Hi,

The RailClone plug-in builds the array based on the coordinates of the spline used. However, depending on your specific scenario, you might find the solution that uses the XSplineXDirection attribute - shared in the 'Object Facing the Same Direction' thread - helpful. I hope that helps.

Hi!

Is there a way to have segments retain their original orientation and not follow the spline?

I want to evenly distribute a sequence of objects along a spline, but keep them all facing the same direction in the world. Is this possible?

It's a bunch of products that need to be facing the camera or at a slight art-directable angle, and I want to use RC instead of Max's array modifier because I want to have an art-directable sequence of separate objects and also shape of the spline. RC seems ideal except for the rotation!

I think I can do it with forest pack and a spline, but editing the sequence is messier and I can't get it to do a long random sequence at the part that is furthest away from the camera (loads of products vanishing into DoF/off-camera)

Other free plugins / Re: Color Edge Corona render

Apologies - I mistakenly referred to the Forest Edge map earlier. As you correctly noted, the ColorEdge map currently appears to be incompatible with the Corona renderer. I'll check it with our development team, but to be honest, I'm not sure whether this is something that can be implemented on our end, if it would require support from the Corona renderer team, or if it might need collaboration from both sides. That said, I should mention that we haven’t updated ColorEdge in quite some time, and unfortunately, we currently lack the resources to work on our free plug-ins. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi,

First, let me mention that using the CoronaDistance map as a Distribution Map is possible. Just make sure that the Forest object is placed at the world origin to ensure it works correctly. To simulate varying density you can combine multiple maps. In the attached sample scene (250627_CoronaDistanceSampleScene_ITOOSOFT.max), I’ve used a simple Noise map to demonstrate this approach. I hope this helps.

Could you please perform the following test?
  • Delete the contents of: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Itoo Software\RailClone\Style Editor
  • Open 3ds Max and create a new RailClone object.
  • Open the Style Editor and move it to the desired position on your secondary monitor.
  • Close 3ds Max and send us a screenshot showing the content of the registry key mentioned above.
  • Also, please provide a screenshot showing your monitor's resolution and their relative positions. You can find this under: Windows > Settings > System > Display > Multiple displays.
Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

I found this video to solve it.
But I'm still interested in knowing if this is possible with corona distance. thanks.

Forest Pro (*) / Corona Distance for density?
« Last post by Lupaz on June 26, 2025, 09:34:03 pm »
Hi,

I need to reduce the density of a type of plant (mondo grass) based on the distance from a path.
I thought of using corona distance as a map but it seems Forest doesn't recognize gray areas if I use it for distribution.
Is there a way to plug it in somewhere else for this purpose? If not, is there a way to reduce the density based on the distance to an object?

Thank you
