Forest Pro (*) / Re: Can i Scatter objects based on another FP Scatter..
« Last post by Michal Karmazín on August 22, 2025, 11:50:38 am »
Hi,

Changing the Render Mode of the surface object from Automatic to Meshes under the Display roll-out should fix the issue. By default, ForestPack doesn’t create a mesh for rendering; it uses a custom shader to generate native instances, allowing millions of items to render efficiently. However, if you want to use a Forest object as a surface for other Forest object(s), a standard mesh must be generated. Note that instancing won’t apply in this case — the Forest object will be converted to a mesh. If your objects have many polygons, you may need to adjust the Display > Max faces limit (default 5 million faces).

Currently, Forest objects cannot be used as items within a ForestSet.

I hope this helps.

Forest Pro (*) / Can i Scatter objects based on another FP Scatter..

I know i can use another FP as an Exclude, but what if i wanted to use it as an include?

My example..

I want to scatter some small mushrooms under some trees.
My trees are already scattered but i want my mushrooms to only include near my scattered tree's..  With some falloff control to have them scale down as they get further from each tree center.

Is this kind of operation possible? Additional: Can i use a FPSet to do this if my source Scatter was in the scene rather than FP's?

ForestIvy / Re: Ivy Growing Inside/Clashing - How to Avoid

Well that's exactly the problem, there were no flipped faces.

I'll try and recreate a video where this happens

Ahh ok i was setting it as a Forest Pack ref not Object area.. that now works! thank you.

If you’re having this kind of problem, you can use xView > Face Orientation to identify any flipped faces.

I think one of the biggest issues I'm having is that the ivy treats some geometry like the normals are flipped, when in fact the normals are fine.  A quick reset xform seems to fix it

Hi,

You can tweak alignment and rotation under Leaves & Flowers > Align mode (Branch Normal > Branch Direction / Perpendicular), then fine-tune it with the Rotation settings. Increasing the Growth > Surf. Offset will also lift the leaves from the surface. I hope this helps.

Hi,

In my quick test, using ForestSet as an Object Area worked as expected. Please feel free to send us your scene and we will be happy to take a look. Thanks in advance.

Forest Pro (*) / Re: Export Forest Ivy to USD

Hi,

At the moment, you can export it via the 3ds Max quad menu (right-click the ForestIvy object) and select transform > Convert To > Editable Mesh. Just make sure Display > Viewport > Mesh mode is active first. We’ll review how this could be improved in future updates.

Work in Progress / Rotating Probability Gradient
« Last post by cj123 on August 21, 2025, 07:46:42 pm »
Hi everyone, new to the forums here. You all have been a big help in the past and I thought I'd come in with a question of my own. I'm currently using the running bond brick macro with the probability gradient macro nested within it to create the attached exihibts (see vertical/horizontal jpgs). I'm wondering if there's a way to create an expression or something to rotate the orientation of the gradient to any angle of my choosing (not just 0 or 90)? In order to rotate the existing pattern I've been checking the "operate on x/y" box which has worked for the time being, but I suspect what I'm asking for is going to be a little more complicated than that. ;) Thanks for your help in advance!
