We’re proud to announce Creating detailed sand with Forest Pack (https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/creating-detailed-sand-with-forest-pack), a new guest tutorial by Mickael Riciotti (http://www.mikecg.com/), environment artist at Unit Image (http://www.unit-image.fr/) in Paris. Inspired by a recent article on FXGuide (https://www.fxguide.com/featured/the-tech-of-pixar-part-1-piper-daring-to-be-different/) about creating the sand in Houdini for Pixar's piper, Mikael wanted to see if he could create a similar look with 3ds Max, V-Ray and Forest Pack Pro.

The tutorial covers several important topics for creating believable natural environments, including the ability to randomise transforms, the importance of including objects at different scales and controlling their probability, and extensive use of Forest Colour to control the colour, reflectivity and translucency of scattered items.

Scene files are included so you can follow along with the tutorial, or just learn from the the final result and incorporate its techniques into your own workflows.
