Hi,
I've started modelling a rocking chair that I am manufacturing in a workshop. I've developed the model of it from Sketchup.

I urgently need help in creating the woven seat for this chair. I've attached the models of this from Sketchup and 3ds Max. I've hit a dead end as I cannot figure it out. Perhaps someone could help me? I've watched the weaving tutorial but I cannot accomplish it.

Please someone help me, please!

Mark

Hi,

First of please  assign Yourself a *PRO* level access from the Licensed Account User Panel > Forum Accounts

These kind of patterns are more complex than it seems from first sight. RailClone needs Splines to be in place before it can generate geometry.
In this case You will need to create helper splines that follow Your desired shape- both along and across. This will require some planing from Your side. So the distances are correct.
And then Create railclone geometry on top of those helpers splines.

Here are similar RC furniture styles that use same technique that can give You some ideas.

Again, I would recommend tackling this style, once You are more comfortable with RailClone working. If You just starting out I would recommend You follow our ongoing series of tutorials. You may also find helpful our detailed documentation.
I would highly recommend you to check our RailClone "Getting Started with RailClone" followed by our "Next Steps with RailClone" guides too.

Thank you for your response. What you've shown is almost correct in the animated gif. I want to create the weaving on the middle "timber line", not the outer as you've shown. This would be where you'd sit in the object I am making. I still have no clue how to make this though in 3ds max.

I also don't know how to assign myself pro-level access like you mentioned at the start.

Hi Rokas,

I've updated my 3ds file now. I've attached it again. Sorry to be pestering, but I'm a total newbie to this, I'm in the process of making this object too in real life so getting this sorted would help me finish this project. I'm making it for a furniture design and making course I'm doing in Cork Ireland. I really appreciate your help.

Kind regards,

Mark

The woven seat is coloured blue in the 3ds max. I will be weaving it from 4mm diameter seagrass rope. If that's of any help in visualising the weaving. I'm still completely lost in rail clone but I endeavour to understand it better during the summer when I can focus to working solely with it in 3ds max and making objects.

Hi. This modeling task is outside of RailClones designed purpose.
Again- I would recommend getting started with simpler styles.

Once You feel comfortable with how RC works You will be able to tackle this style.

After completing our online training You will understand how to prepare base splines and segments.
