xfrog Fruit Tree Sizes
« on: July 15, 2014, 10:48:26 AM »
Hi

I purchased the xfrog fruit tree library to work within Forest Pack Pro. I have installed the library and collated the materials so all is ok there. The problem I am having is that none of the trees in this library are the correct size according to the sizes listed in the pdf. For example the young apple tree is stating 4m in the pdf however when I bring it in, it is only 1m.

I would have thought that the models would be the same size as stated in the pdf, I do not want to have to scale the models each time I use them within Forest Pack and I also don't really want to have to manually scale each max file for each tree within the library.

Please could somebody advise if this is a problem with the xfrog library and if so I suitable way around of permanently scaling the models to the correct size.

I use 3ds Max Design 2014 with vray renders. I have my system units and file units set to metres.

Thanks

Hi,

First I should mention, that all XFrog models are made by our partner Xfrog Inc.

Did some tests with XfrogPlants_Fruit_MAX package and I can confirm, that the model scale doesn't correspond with attached PDF file. There was a very similar issue with scale of some XFrogPlants - please check this post. Unfortunately, we can´t do much more in this case as all models are done by Xfrog, so we can't edit them. Thanks for your comprehension.

I'll keep you posted once having any news from Xfrog.

Kind regards,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I bit of a flaw in the product if they are not scaled correctly. Surely when purchasing the libraries any scale factors should be mentioned in the pdf documentation.

As I will be purchasing more libraries in the future please could you tell me if this is the case for all libraries? If so please could you let me know if the HQ packages have the same issue?

Many Thanks

Craig

Hi,

Have to say, that we don't have a lot problems with Xfrog Plants / HQ Plants models reported and if some issue appears usually it's fixed very quickly. Actually there are about 3000 Xfrog models in total, so feel free to ask directly on Xfrog's forum about package(s) you are interested in. Generally, hard to say which models suits best to your scenes. As posted here:

"Each library has its own pros and cons. HQ Plants include native materials for VRay and Mental Ray and doesn't use opacity maps (renders may be slightly faster). XFrog catalog is much more larger and includes species that are not available in other libraries.

In any case, both includes free samples, so users may evaluate them and see what fits better to their needs."

The same in case of Laubwerk or Evermotion models. As there are free samples available, probably the best way is to do some tests with them and than decide.

Kind regards,
