Borrowing network license from any location
« on: November 28, 2023, 11:22:45 AM »
Hello,

I have a 1 Forest Pack Network License. Our office are going to work hybrid system soon so I have to use this Network license from my home, from another PC and network. I assume that is possible cuz I have followed the instructions and informations from "Borrowing network license(s) from any location" docs. When I use my Office PC IP as a network host server with 16720 port ( My office pc ip: 192.168.0.12) it wont work. I've checked if it's a communication issue, I have opened TCP/UDP  for 16720 port but still not working. Also cant reach the host while I try to ping with TCP scanning tool.

I'm not sure if this is the problem but I suspect that my office's Network has a default dynamic IP. Just like Internet provider gives everyone for their private use. It's not a specific IP. I just want to know if I should use a static IP for it? Is this might be a problem? I  am not sure if I'm entering the right informations.

I know there is a way to borrow license and use from any location, cuz I have seen it a year ago when I was attending a 3D course they gave me a Forest pack license I have entered their IP adres and port to use and it was worked perfectly.

We are going to work hybrid system soon and going to buy new licenses if this method works. I would be much appreciate if anoyone knows how to do and will help. Thanks a lot.

Hi,

The 192.168.*.* is an internal/local IP address, but you should use the external/public IP address. You can, for example, get it by using the curl ifconfig.co command. As you've already pointed out, the License Server uses port 16720 by default, so it should be accessible, preferably by using a secured VPN connection, although it's not necessary. I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have entered my public IP adress as you told but still not working. According to nmap "host seems down or blocking the ping" somehow. I dont know what blocks the ping I have checked firewall everything seems fine. I dont know if its gonna solve this but do you know how can I set a secured VPN connection?

Hi again,

I've done its now working perfectly. For who wondering how I did I've done via open a 16720 TCP/UDP port on router/modem interface. I should have thought of it before.
Thank you Michal!
