Camera: Density Profiles would be great
« on: July 20, 2011, 04:06:21 PM »
Hi,

first i have to say thanks for this extremely helpful piece of software, i bought it recently and i'm a big fan now.  ;D

I just want to ask, if there is a way to implement density profiles for the different cameras in the scene.
Usually in a scene you have close-ups, far distance views, etc. Every camera should get it's own density setting in my opinion. Right now i didn't find such an option and i have to remember/write down the different density values for each camera. Some scenes have 15 and more cameras and if you have many forest objects it's really a lot of work to set up the density for each Forest object for each camera.

So that's just a wish for a future update - or maybe i just missed the option and it's already implemented?

Thanks in advance.  :)

Hi, i'm glad that you find useful our software. ;)

Unfortunately, would a bit complex to handle multiples ranges of density values, one for each camera. But i think that we can find an compromise solution, adding one option to get the range values directly from the camera's parameters... may be from the Environment Ranges. This is easy to implement and more understandable by the users. What do you think ?

Just being curious: would you make it a separate, little plugin or do you plan to integrate it into Forest? I know there are a lot of other requests, but could you just tell approximately when do you plan to make it? No rush, just asking  :)

Hi, i'm sorry for the delay in replying. I have not received the notification of your post...  :-[

This feature will be included as a new option in the Camera parameters of Forest.

We have planned to release a stable version of Forest in the next days, to complete the current beta phase of 3.5.x. Next, we will start to work on a new beta series, adding this and other features probably for the first version. At this moment i cannot give you a more precise estimation.

We usually don't add new features to the versions that are ready to final, because all changes in the code always introduces certain degree of instability.
