Hey,

Trying to figure out a solution for this. We have RailClone as well, so if that's the appropriate tool to use, please let me know as I'm stumped.

We have tens of thousands of point helpers in a scene. I want to replace all of those points with random selection of objects (about 30 different types), and have them adopt the point helper's transform information (ie. rotation and position).

I could use Soulburn scripts to do a random replace of these points with the selection of 30 different types, but I'd like more control than that. Forest Pro does have the functionality that I want (ie. % variations of objects, ability to add/swap/remove objects), but I'm not sure how to go about using it for this situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The only method that I can think of that might work would be to replace all of my points with small planes (only big enough to support one object, and small enough to keep the accuracy of the location), attach them all together to create a surface for Forest Pro, use a custom rotation map using grey scale to drive the Z-axis rotation based on the initial Point Helper's rotation value (I see this being a really tedious task!), and that should work... maybe...

Hi,

The Custom Edit mode includes a great tool for this purpose: Tree Editor -> Creation Tools -> Reference Objects. Under the Select Object button you can simply choose all your Point Helpers and use the Distribute Using: Pivot having the Align option marked. Hope that helps.

Feel free to check our on-line reference guide for more detailed information about Creation Tools.

Best regards,
