Errant Patches of Large Grass
« on: July 15, 2025, 07:35:49 am »
I think its due to the geometry underneath but Im not sure how to correct it. Im surprised that FP is affected by the size of the polygons used on the surface or a quick change to a slope? You would assume that FP has the ability to scale the grass clumps in order to traverse sharp elevation changes? Whats most surprising is FP's answer to this by adding one huge grass cluster over the top of a mound and hoping for the best...lol..It basically scaled the one cluster to patch the surface where it cant figure out what to do. I guess Ill have to get in there and even out the polygon spread but still surprised this is still an issue.

Hi Dustin,

Please try disabling the Surfaces > Scale to fit sloped area option as a quick fix to see if it helps. However, for better control in this region, it may be necessary to use smaller distribution patches or a detailed preset. You can create an additional Forest object specifically for this problematic area and combine it with the larger Forest object by using a Forest Exclude Area. I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Dustin

Thank you, Ill try these fixes. Its funny to try removing the option of scaling to fit sloped areas but I will try that also. I admit I was kind of sloppy on the geometry but its hard to see time to go into the minutia of the underlying geometry to make the plugin work more efficiently but that might be the ultimate fix. I like the option of using another preset of smaller patches also. Ty.

Hi, this problem comes up a lot here. I thought of a possible solution. How about simply limiting the scale to e.g. 150% by default. For example, add a "Max scale" parameter for "Scale to fit sloped area". Just an idea for improvement.

Thanks for your suggestion. For next updates we'll include a limit to the scaling.
