Forest in reference mode vs Tranform
« on: July 06, 2023, 11:16:38 AM »
The Transform section is broken in Forests in reference mode - it moves geometry based on the global axis though it supposed to respect the local axis of the references.
Rotation and Scale transform are still correct.
Any chance to fix it?

Hi,

Thanks for your message. This one isn't a bug, the translation settings have always worked in world coordinates (it's the same in normal scatter mode as well). There is a workaround though. You can use a Forest Effect called X/Y Local Translate that allows you to randomise the position in local coordinates. It also uses scene units instead of percentages which many people find useful.

It's included with Forest Pack, but I've attached you sample scene with it applied so you can see how it works.

I hope that helps,

Paul

Many thanks, the effect indeed solves it!
BTW Is there any trick (effect?) to enable collisions in path\reference mode? I mean self collisions between FP geometry AND\OR collisions with outer geometry.
For example  say the boxes in my file are curtains and I don't want them to penetrate the walls and self intersect.
