Forest Pack geometry Color ID suggestion
« on: December 03, 2024, 04:41:55 AM »
The current Forest Pack random Color IDs are good for setup to see how geometry is scattered, but I often need to make viewport animation previz with Forest Pack turned on, to see the trees on ground. And random assigned Color ID for each geometry in list of scattered objects make them too colorful for such purpose. Off course, I can manually tweak Color ID for each geometry in list for previz, but in case of adding or removing new geometry, or if I need to better see cluster distribution, I will have to tweak Color ID again.
I have a suggestion for Color ID generation. Could we have a global Color box in Display section of Forest Pack to select the color for objects as we currently have for geometry Color ID, but add one more parameter nearby - "HUE color variation" in percent range (0-100)? So, in this case if I have Forest Pack with trees, I could give them dark green color and 10% of HUE color variation to separate different trees in this Forest Pack. If I have Forest Pack with grass, I could assign light green or yellow color and 30% of HUE color variations. This new Color generation could be switchable from the current Color ID scheme to the new one by radio button in Forest Pack Display parameters.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion, I'll pass that on to the development team for further discussion.

In the meantime, most renderers no longer need the FP automaterial, because at rendertime it uses those that are assigned the source geometry. That means potentially the following may work to display the wire colour int he viewports without affecting Colour IDs:
- In the Display Rollout - turn off Use Colour ID
- In the Geometry rollout - turn off Consolidate Materials (this should stop the auto material being reassigned once you remove it)
- Remove the material from the FP object itself.. One way is to use the UVW Remove Utility.
- The Wire Colour should now control the colour of the Point Cloud.

I hope that helps,

Kindest regards,

Paul

This is not exactly what I want but thank you for suggestion. I probably could use this approach somehow.
