Latest Forest Pro crashes 3ds Max 2015 / MentalRay
« on: June 16, 2015, 07:09:19 PM »
Hi,

i've updated the Forest Pro / Railclone Pro to the latest version yesterday - now Mental Ray crashes every time trying to render the scene.

 The error is :
DB   0.5    263 MB fatal  041052: accessing unknown tag 0x5

Guess it has something to do with Mutli-Submaterials ( not sure )

After deleting the Forest Objects i renders fine - but it's not what i desired, of course.

Using Max Design 2015 64bit on WIN7 Pro

Hi, i'm testing several of our tutorial scenes but i cannot reproduce the error. Please, would you send us a stripped scene to support@itoosoft.com ?

Thanks,

Not really. It was caused by a workaround to fix a Mental Ray bug. Unfortunately the workaround was not implemented correctly.

I think we have fixed the problem. You can find the patch attached.
To install it, just replace FShader3.dll in <maxdir>\NVIDIA\shaders_autoload\mentalray\shaders. It everything is ok, we'll include it in the next FP update.

I'm having this issue too. I have installed the attachment but still having the problem in 2015. (the attachment fixed the problem in 2016 BUT my lighting doesn't work in 2016, different issue..) Some of my forest items do work; forest fir tree and grass clumps are not working but maple tree and rocks, for example, work fine. Also if I put the fir tree in a scene by itself it renders just fine but when put into my scene I get the same error as suppenhuhn reported. Do you have any ideas what might be the problem?

We finally could reproduce the crash here. But it happens also using FP 4.3.7 for 2015 (binaries are compatible with 2016). So, it seems there are several problems involved here.

Apologies for any inconvenience. This issue is requiring a lot of trial and error tests.

I've created a new thread, to unify all cases related with Mental Ray and FP 4.4.0. Please, follow the thread here.
