Odd results with hanging chains
« on: October 10, 2023, 01:57:14 PM »
Hi all

I'm having a weird issue with a hanging chain I'm trying to create.

What I don't show in the video is I've created a long chain base object & the pivot is at the top.

It's doing the opposite of what it's showing.

Any ideas why?

Thanks

Hi,

Adjusting its Direction settings under the Surface tab (which is set to 100 by default) to the Surface's Normal (0) should help. If needed, you can "flip" the surface.

I hope that helps.

Sorry, another thing I should have mentioned is that I'm using a path for distribution and nothing's plugged into surface.

Maybe I should send a file of just the chain FP

Hi Michal,

I've PM'd you a link to the max file of just the chain FP.

It's best viewed in alpha mode when rendering.

If you can take a look that'd be great.

Thanks

That's because of using the Proxy Display mode - items used for this mode have the Pivot Point placed at the bottom. Instead, your Custom Object has the Pivot Point placed at the top. Using the Points-Cloud Display mode for the preview would be recommendable. I hope this clears it up.
