Animate Objects from Zero Size
« on: November 11, 2014, 02:13:41 PM »
Hi, I have a build sequence to animate. I need to bring in Stadium Seating. The Seats Roll in behind the structure that is being built. I have everything working, I'm using an animated gradient map to pull the seats in. The problem I am facing is that if the seat animation starts from a Zero Scale (invisible) the forest pack doesn't work. I have also tried animating the visibility of the seat from object properties but this doesn't appear to work either. Any Suggestions? I'm using forest pack 4.22

Hi,

The animation should start from a visible geometry (it could be really small object, but there should be a geometry information).

When the first frame of the animation doesn't contain any geometry, Forest can't generate properly the information needed for viewport modes. Also please note, that for preview purposes you can push the Points-Cloud mode limits over 100%, if needed.

Feel free to check this related thread.

Kind regards,

Hi Michal,

So how would I go about making the animated object invisible at frame 0?

I have scaled it down as much as I can, but I am still rendering specks.

Hi,

There is a workaround by having the frame 0 with geometry (could be complete, like in the last frame) and starting the animation from frame 1 (this doesn't need to contain any geometry). Than you can in 3ds Max's Time Configuration set Start Time to the frame 1 (attaching screenshot). Hope you'll find it useful.

Kind regards,

OK so I had to do a reverse animation too, and your method didn't seem to work for whatever reason so I've come up with a new solution.

I added a static box to the animated proxy with a material ID of 2, I then used a multi-sub material on it with the opacity set to 100% black.

This seems to work just fine.

I hope iToosoft will fix this problem as soon as possible. Animated Growth objects with zero polygon count are very very common. There are some weird movements of the "Trees" when the "Trees" are growing if I turn on the random transform in the translation tab too.
