scatter along at the corners of individual oval shapes
« on: November 16, 2023, 11:32:05 AM »
Hello,

My client wants to plant a scene with ferns, and these plants should hang down from the oval and slanted objects. If it were just a few objects, I would just go into the item editor and rotate and place the objects individually, but we're talking about almost 100 individual shapes here. That's why I'm reaching out to you guys, because google wouldn't give me a good solution on how to procedurally place the ferns on the edge of an object (I started along a path distributor, but each shape is individual, and I'd have to create a new path for each shape). Do you know a way how I can both place the fern and have it always hang down in the orientation?
There is an attached example image to help you understand what I mean.
There is probably a simple solution, I'm just too stupid to find it. I have been working with FP for 5 years, but never had to solve complex tasks. After the project I will definitely read up more on effects etc, but for now I need a quick answer. Thanks & best regards.

Hi,

As you've pointed out, the Path mode would be the most "precise" one (it will easily rotate these items by using the Follow Path feature), but it requires creating these paths (selecting the "top" faces and within the Edge mode, using the Create Shape option should do the trick). Another option would be to use the UV Surface mode and set the Direction to Down (-100). These objects can be quickly mapped for these purposes, for example, by using the Cylindrical Mapping in the UVW Map modifier.

I hope that helps.

Best regards,
