Aligning pavement pattern to multiple joint splines
« on: November 10, 2022, 10:59:29 AM »
Hi amazing people,

I have a urban development which has a particular pavement pattern, 4 different coloured bricks in all (See image 1).

I've divided each pattern into splines, so 4 shapes with multiple splines for each (See image 2).

Now the main issues are:
  • Alignment
  • Some pavements being clipped

As you can see in image 3, the alignment is off I haven't been able to fix it.

Any help on this would be great.

Thanks.

Hi,

Is the only difference the material colour? If so one option might be to use RailClone Colour with its ability to pick a pixel colour from a map using the surfaces UVs. Here's a short tut about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8_XQnP9ftw

That way you could do it in one RailClone object which would eradicate any alignment issues.

Otherwise, to do it as in your file you won't be able to use Extend X/Y Size to area because the arrays won't line up since they're recalculated for each spline. Instead, set an X and Y size for the arrays and make sure they all share the same pivot location. Then use clipping only for the boolean, but not to set the dimensions of the array.

Best,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks so much for those two solutions.

I'm going to try the first one now but trying to figure out the best way to create the texture onto the surface.

Any advice on that front?

Thanks.

So,

I've created my texture for colouring by UVing my surface and baking out the texture.

The raiclone is full of errors but getting there ha.

Added MAX file too

End of the day now and I don't have more time until Monday to work on this as my PC is getting repaired.

Linking my MAX file of the latest WIP.

If anyone wants to try and fix/improve it I would really appreciate it
