Basic 1S Array problem/limitation?
« on: January 16, 2024, 04:17:04 PM »
Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can help me fix my style, please?
It's a basic 1S array with 1 spline and one segment.

It is a roof fascia that works great, except it fails if the roof is sloped at all (And they are all sloped on this project.)
As soon as I raise a vertex in Z axis, the entire RC breaks, twisting the segments all at odd degrees.
Is there a simple way to fix this?  I tried choosing vertical and it almost worked, but it did not fillet the corners.

Using the current release with 3dsMax2019, win10

Thanks in advance,

Did you try using RC Spline with banking?
I'm not sure if it will fix all your problems here but it's worth a try.
I'd also try breaking the vertices in places like that and maybe add a unique start/end segment but that would also require some conditional check to have it only on the sloped splines.

Best regards,

Thanks for the suggestions! No, I did not yet try RC spline with banking.

Is this what you are referring to?
If so, changing all the values had no visible effect in the viewport...

Hi,

Enabling the Override Banking / X Rotation feature within the Transform Operator placed between the Segment and the Generator should help. In case of any further troubles with it, please feel free to send us / upload your scene and we'll check it here. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Michal,

It did fix the rotation problem, but still doesn't trim...maybe it's not really possible.
I sent the file via wetransfer, in case it could be accomplished,  it would be a huge time saver...

Thanks!

You can fix it by adding a short horizontal section to your base spline "rc testing edge path". Please find attached the modified scene (240117_rcRoofEdge_iToo.max). I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Thanks Michal,

That was helpful, but it won't quite be the solution as it changes the roofline from the architect's drawing.
I made it temporarily with regular poly modeling/boolean ops...

Thanks again,
