Clay brick wall
« on: September 29, 2017, 12:23:23 PM »
Hi guys,

Seriously I'm going crazy here. I just can't get my head around this plugin. I've had RC for a year and watched all the tutorials, but somehow something that seems so simple never works out the way I think it should. I'm trying to create the attached wall. I tried using a 2D Array with sequences to build the different elements. I have attached the (very basic) elements that I am using for the bricks. Somehow everything always gets stretched and x and y aren't where I think they should be. I'm sorry, I know this sounds very jumbled but to be honest I don't even know where to start. When I first saw this wall I immediately thought - yes, something that RC will knock out in no time. I've spent most of the morning so far and still no luck (have attached where I am). Can only seem to get one row of horizontal bricks, and then there's the other type of vertical brick clusters that I can recreate on their own, but not along with everything else.
Will attach my file.

I tried to first build 2 separate horizontal Linear arrays for the horizontal bricks, but I cant even get that right.

Is the problem that I start building things in the left viewport? Sorry if pivots are wierd but I've tried changing them so often not sure what's right anymore.

Please please help.

Thanks

Hi Terri,

First let me mention, that we acknowledge that RC comes with a much steeper learning curve than Forest Pack. In an effort to help users get acquainted with RailClone, we have an ongoing series of tutorials you may find helpful, and detailed documentation. I would recommend you to check our RailClone "Getting Started with RailClone" followed by our "Next Steps with RailClone" guides too.

A possible style set-up would be to use the Sequence Operator in the Increment at Y mode, where even rows will use "shifted" Segment by the Transform - X Fixed Translation (in the attached sample scene automatically calculated from the X Size attribute of used Segment). In addition other Sequence Operators are adjusted in Increment at X or Increment at Y modes to get desired pattern.

Attaching the modified scene. Hope you'll find it useful.

Best regadrs,

Thank you very much Michael. That helps a lot.

Like I said, I have been through the documentation and tutorials...a few times, but I still have loads to learn.

Just a question - how do I cap the horizontal brick like in the image attached? I understand the concept of adding a segment to the 'Left Side' of the array, but I know that doesn't work here, especially as I'm using sequences.

Thanks so much

Hi Terri,

You're welcome. A possible way would be by the Conditional Operator using the Segment > X Counter > Equal to 1, which will put the "half" Segment at the beginning. Attaching modified scene. Hope that helps.

Best regards,
