Complicated Pavement Slab Behaviour
« on: February 22, 2018, 12:00:41 PM »
Hi All, I am trying to create a process where once I extract spline boundaries from a REVIT model, of pavement I can apply a particular 450mm x 450mm Slab that not only aligns to the spline (managed to get that far ha!) but also aligns correctly to large multiple attached boundaries. I effectively want to get the process down so all I need to do is add one spline and BOOM all done. Ha easier said than done!

1) I have the spline boundaries already.

2) I can align the pavement to that spline correctly, even if there are several splines on different orientations

3) What i need to do now is get it so the pavement slabs do not continue at half slabs when it doesn't align perfectly to the next corridor, there would be a slab break, then the slabs would reset and start again.

Screenshot of what i'm trying to achieve...

Hi,

I guess you're using the Extend X/Y Size to Area feature. I’m afraid, that there’s no fully automatic way of splitting such area into multiple arrays, but that’s possible with some tweaks of the base spline copy.

To decide, which vertex should “break” the array, using a X Spline would be the recommendable way – the Y Size you set just by a value as you can still use the Clipping Area to maintain the shape – you should just break vertices on the X Spline at points where you need to “reset it”. Attaching a sample scene,

Hope you’ll find it useful.

Best regards,

Michal this is great! thank you for looking at this for me, its more than I originally wanted to do but I guess it would take less than an hour to do all paths across a site - one question... If i create an X spline sometimes the clipping splines pick up the entity from the spline next to it (there all attached) is ther a way to tell the railclone not to fill in neighbouring splines or do i need a new railclone per closed spline? example below.

Hi,

You're welcome. That might be related to the Y Size value (lowering it should help). If these spline parts are too close, that lower value of the Y Size would result in gaps on other parts, dividing the style into multiple generators would be recommendable (you may change the Material ID on these “problematic spline parts” and use the Limits feature). Hope that helps.

Best regards,
