RC objects can't get the material from the segment?
« on: March 07, 2019, 07:09:25 PM »
Hello guys, sorry for another newbie question:

Every time when I create an RC object from a segment mesh, the material on this RC object is just gone, turned into 3ds Max's default material. I will have to assign the segment's material to the RC object in order for it to have a material. Is that what you do every time?

Because I have 3 L1S in this RC object, each one has a different material. I have been creating 3 RC objects, so that I can manually assign the material to each RC object. But the thing is, if I need to change a numeric value, I will then have to go inside 3 RC objects and do it for every one. Over here I just need to change one value, the different parts will all behave the same, which would be ideal.

So, what's your trick to force the RC to automatically get material from the segment?

Thanks again!

Another issue I ran into within this same graph is, I wanted to combine these 3 segments into one using the compose node, then use the result as the evenly segment. But no matter what mode of the Compose node is chosen, RC just generates a very weird result. Seems like this node messes up everything. If I remove this node, and use 3 L1S, the result will be perfect. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi
Regarding first issue, please take a look at this explanation: https://docs.itoosoft.com/kb/railclone/why-do-segments-in-railclone-ignore-my-materials

Regarding second, please attach Your scene so we can check it.

Thank you for your help. As to the second question, it's not a scene specific question. It's just how you can organize your scene.

If I want to control multiple RC objects with one parameter, the easiest way is to include all these RC objects into one graph, just like the twist value in my graph attached previously. But it will require the users to create a multi-sub material for this new RC object that actually consists of multiple L1S or A2S, which complicates the scene. But if you want the simplicity of the material, then you have to make sure each RC object only consists of one L1S or A2S, then it would be difficult to use one parameter to control multiple RC objects.

I wish this basic function was addressed before, since RC has been evolving for so many years. Using RappaTools, as suggested in the knowledge base, to create the multi/sub material is not really a perfect solution.

Thank you again for your help.
