No shadows through RC object
« on: April 25, 2017, 07:53:43 AM »
Hi guys,

Seems like my sun isn't casting any shadows through my woven ceiling RC object. Please see image attached. It seems to me that there should definitely be small square-like shadows on the floor everywhere. I am using a Vray Dome Light with HDRi map (Peter Guthrie sky - gamma at 0.75).

Thanks

try directional light without area shadows. then You will have those squares. hdri blurs source of light and thus shadows

Ooof really? Surely there's a way to use an HDRi with RC? It casts shadows well with any other object I use. I know it's usually quite a blurry source, but if you lower the gamma it sharpens the shadows.

I almost always only use HDRis to light all my scenes.

RC has nothing to do with shadows and hdri. use it as any other geometry.

So you reckon it's more the distance of the RC object from the ground that's blurring the shadows too much? I will try enhance them with another light source in addition to the general hdri lighting
