Railclone 3.06 and Mental Ray for Max 2018?
« on: July 13, 2017, 11:10:02 PM »
Could you clarify what this means in the Readme?
"Added support for V-Ray 3.6.
Added support for Max 2018.
Note: Mental Ray is not supported for this version."

From what I can tell, RC seems to work just fine with MR in max 2018. I just opened up Max 2018, set it to Mental Ray, made a quick fence, assigned an MR A&D material and hit Render: no problems or warnings so... Is there some aspect I am missing here? Is it that you can't apply  procedural materials via the RC style editor or something? The attached image is just messing around for testing, but it seems to show that everyone is basically playing well in the same sandbox.

BTW: I am glad to see you are going with the new product management console. Will be looking forward to the full auto-update feature rolling out.

Hi, there are not limitations to use RC in Max 2018 with Mental Ray, but there is not support for instancing. So, the object is built as rendered as a whole mesh.
That is less efficient and may be a problem for big objects. But that's all.

I'm glad you enjoy our new updating system. And yes, next versions will include auto-update for plugins, just we had not time to implement it on the first release.
