Railclone Color and nested Railclones.
« on: September 24, 2019, 04:37:57 AM »
Hi there,

I'm building a Railclone setup for container stacks that can be controlled by one spline.

It involves creating several Railclones stacks with random distribution and heights, then nesting those Railclone stacks onto a larger Railclone object link to a master spline. Easy to setup.
I'm using Railclone Color map to randomize the diffuse, reflection, reflection glossiness, and a bunch of other things like rust.

The Railclone Color map works as intended on the first layer of Railclones, the stacks (see first image). But breaks apart when those stacks are nested. (see second image) The stacks are treated as elements and thus attributed a random Railclone Color slot.
Am I doing anything wrong or is it working as intended?

The workaround I guess would be either to discard the master Railclone object and scatter stacks manually (Option B), or remove the Railclone Color maps altogether and randomize material IDs.

I have included a simplified version of the file if anyone wants to play with it.
i'm using 3ds max 2019, RailClone Pro 3.2.0 and Vray Next.

Thanks

Hi.

RailClone Color map works on segments. Too bad in this case You can't use it.
As a workaround You can use MultiTexture map with randomized materials by material ID.

Thanks for the feedback Rokas.

I will rebuild my material with Multitexture map.
