Railclone Fence hanging Arnold Renderer
« on: September 25, 2020, 10:47:13 AM »
I have a scene with a railclone fence. When I render with Arnold it hangs on the preview Pass on the second
frame in my animation. I have gone through the scene and established that my Railclone fence that is causing the issue.

Any ideas why this is happening. I am using 3DS max 2021

Hi,

It is hard to give You any tip without testing it on Your scene. Please attach or send it to us it so we can see what can be done in Your case.

Hi. Thanks for attached scene. I can reproduce the issue. I have logged this to reviewed by our main developer. I can't promise quick fix.

The only quick workaround I can suggest is to disable instancing engine. Doing so will take a while to generate fence for first few frames, but You can use this workaround today.

Thank You again for reporting this to us.

Thanks that worked. I've had the same problem on another model with Raiclone & Arnold

Hello! This still seems to be an issue on Forest Pack 7 and Arnold.
A workaround (adding an editable poly modifier on top) does work for me as well but it destroys the instancing of the objects which results in longer rendering times – so that solution doesn't seem acceptable for me. Are there any plans to work on this issue?

Hi,

Sorry to hear you are facing that issue. We'd hadn't had reports of issues with FP7 until now, but it could be related to the RailClone issue mentioned above. Would you mind sending us a test scene that reproduces the issue to helpdesk@itoosoft.com. Thanks!

Another workaround is to use Forest Tools to instantiate the scatter to native Max instances. This will be more efficient than collapsing it to an editable mesh.

Many thanks,
Paul

Checking it with the debugger, freezes happens within the Arnold core.
We have reported the problem to Autodesk.
