Railclone on Curved Roof Issues
« on: August 12, 2024, 04:51:17 PM »
Hi,

I'm trying to add a Railclone roof to the following curved roof (also attached):
[Curved roof screenshot.jpg][/Curved roof screenshot.jpg]

I followed the X-Spline/Y-Spline method from the following forum which got me so far:

https://forum.itoosoft.com/railclone-pro-(*)/curved-roof

This got me 80% there but unfortunately it hasn't quite worked. On one side of the roof, the tiles are flipped, and reversing/redrawing/changing the start point of any of the splines doesn't help. On the other side the tiles are sunken into the roof.

Here is a dropbox link to a maxfile with my latest attempt (had some trouble attaching to the post, apologies):

If anyone is able to offer any advice I would be grateful - on a bit of a tight deadline with this project.

Thanks,

Cian

Hi Cian,

Please find attached a revised version of your scene (240813_RailcloneCurvedRoof_ITOOSOFT.max). I've switched the Y Mode to Free and set the roof's inclination using the angle (X Rotation of the array). Additionally, I've prepared and included helper surfaces to assist with the setup. I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Thanks Michal, that's exactly what I needed!

I've noticed however that the tiles seem not to be properly offset with each other (screenshot attached). It looks ok towards the centre of the roof, but towards the edges the tiles are almost in line with each other rather than the 50% offset you'd find on a real roof.

Can you think of any fix for this, or is it a necessary compromise with a curved roof?

Thanks again,

Cian

You're welcome. I’m afraid that’s a side effect of setting the Y Mode to Free in order to prevent slicing the segments. I hope this clarifies it.

Best regards,
