Railing Corner and end/start not working as intended
« on: June 30, 2023, 01:41:53 PM »
Hi,

I'm trying to create a railing which has a particular start/end segment.

It works fine until you have the railing end at a slope.

As for the corner segment it doesn't align correctly.

Any help would be great.

I've attached the max file.

Got the corner piece to work with a transform and conditional node.

Now just for the sloped end/start segment.

If you don`t want to deform geometry, you must take another approach.
You could use an extra subspline for railing with a different ID (set limit by ID on Generators).
Detach the handrail from the posts and use it as a separate segment. I have used RC Slice to get the Default Segment.
Finally, since the connection between start/end and default segments is not perfect you could use Vertex veld to veld it together. (Before adding any modifier on top of the RC switch dispaly mode to Mesh)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

There seems to be an issue with the max file. See screenshot. I am using raiclone 5 or there is not RC Slice.

I think you're right with a different approach when using a different subspline.

I'll change a few things.

Also the end/start has to be straight/parallel to the ground.

Ah, sorry about that. RC Slice is a new RC6 feature.
If you want Start & End segments to be stepped then the Default segment needs to be "cut out" vertically to assure an exact juncture. Setting the Default segment to vertical will slightly deform it but hopefully tolerable for your needs.
Also, now we can do it with just a single spline just by offsetting railhand on the Z axis.
