Surface Array problematic Edges
« on: October 15, 2014, 09:53:34 AM »
Hello.

I'm having a bit of an issue using an array with a surface and clipping area. Take a look at the image.

The green is my surface and there are lines around both used as clipping lines. The purple is the rail clone object.
You can clearly see that the edges of the rail-clone are not sitting on the surface. I have improved it my making my surface areas bigger than the clipping area (i've not shown this file, but it's still doing it).

How can i fix this issue? It's working perfectly on the surface except at the edges.

Here is a maxfile for you to look at, it's one rail clone object with four arrays. Two for the beams and two for the glass

Deadline looming as usual!

Many thanks.

I have achieved what I wanted by creating a bigger surface to use and then clip using my splines. So the problem appears to happen if you have a surface that is exactly the same as the clipping spline.

Might be something to look in to fixing though. For my purpose what I have done is fine, but there will be occasions when i need to be more precise.

I'm afraid this is a case which we could not solve yet. Let me to explain how is the RailClone workflow:

1) First it creates an array extended to the limits of the clipping area.
2) Segments are conformed to the surface. Artifacts on edges are caused by segments which doesn't fit completely in the surface (see image).
3) In the last stage, segments are sliced by the clipping area.

We have some ideas to solve this limitation. Meanwhile, the workaround is to use surfaces larger than the RailClone object.

No problem,

That's exactly what I had to do, it works very well doing it this way, but it's a little less precise in terms if where i wanted my heights. For what i needed it was absolutely fine though, i can imaging this is a really hard thing to figure out!
