Wood beam wall
« on: August 30, 2020, 07:30:42 PM »
Hi.

Sorry to bother you guys with this question. But as the beginner i am, i am stuck on this little task.

I am trying to recreate a wall like the image attached.
Each level in Z is a different height and the seam/edge between the beams are a bit skewed.

The first problem started already when i tried to pad the seams together. I know the skew is 10cm.
So i create array2S - put the rectangle that represent the wall in clipping area and the wood segment as segment in Default.
This randomises the beams nicely. but it seems that "tile" mode scales the segments, making them stretched, and then the 10cm pading is wrong.
if i change the mode to "count" they dont stretch anymore...but now they dont randomise. Also tried adaptive with scale padding off with no luck.

Any tips or links to other posts regarding same problem is much appreciated :)

Cheers

Hi
I don't have much time right now but here's one quick setup that might help.
Please check the note in the Style Editor and Parameters in the general rollout.
You can add Multi/Sub-Object or RailcloneColor map to make texture variance.

I simplified the Generator and now you only need to connect some macros.
"Smaller" generators are used to generate Skewed Planks, so just connect the left side to Segment A, the right side to Segment B, and set Skew Padding.
Then those Macros connect to any of 5 additional inputs.
If you need to control Gap size you can connect Gap Size node to all exposed numeric inputs.

I hope this generator makes any sense to you and could be useful.
If you need any more info do not hesitate to ask.

note: Because of some RC restrictions gap size couldn`t have 0 value so I override it to some minimum of 0.02cm. (it is barely visible so I think it will be acceptable)
Best Regards

tnx, glad to help  ;)
It just occurred to me that I hadn’t exposed Y Gap Size. So here is the Generator that includes both and I also introduce some more parameters.
Please check if that works for you.

Best Regards

All this was a bit much for me to take inn!
Macros, all these nodes and parameters :D

But yes, it seems to work. And the Y gap is a nice little addon.

If you have a problem understanding how the generator works maybe I could make a short video tomorrow.
