RailClone Pro (*) / Animated clipping splines
« Last post by Larus on April 21, 2025, 11:40:45 AM »
Hello,

I'm old ForestPack user but beginner RailClone user. In FP you could animate a spline for the exclude area and it will work nicely. Is something like that possible in RC?
For example, I have a row of houses animated so that camera is standing still but different house is shown in each frame. Each house has some different feature on the roof (roof window, dormer, etc.) Is it possible to animate clipping spline(s) so that RC roof always has same color/position variation of tiles and only exclude tiles where roof window or dormer shows up in a animation frame? So when you compare two frames you see the same roof tiles variation (color/position) but with different roof feature. Not sure if I explained it well :)

Thanks, we'll take a look to it.

The attached.ms file can implement the "Normalize" mode I need. It would be ideal if it could be integrated into the "Normalize" function of RC. Please note that this file, generated by AI and containing Chinese characters, may or may not be of use to you.

The new Connect can only implement the first mode, while what I need is the second mode.

Please, take a look to the new Connect operator.

It creates the perpendicular lines, as shown in your image.

Can we implement 'Normalize' in the second mode? This will bring more creativity.

Hello, i just tested our servers and everything seems correct. I could download all assets at full speed.

Please, try this:

- Be sure there is enough free space in the C: disk.
If needed you can change the download temporary folder at File->Preferences->General->Temporary Folder.

- Check if there is some folder configured at File->Preferences->Local Network Installation. If so, delete it.
This folder is used as a local cache for the packages, and by default there is not any defined.

- Delete the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Itoo Software\Update Manager\Packages, and run Update Manager again.
That clears up all information about the installed packages.

I hope that helps.

General - Off Topic / Re: Max RAM required for Forest pack?
« Last post by financecajole on April 17, 2025, 05:43:08 AM »
Thank you very much, everybody. I was thinking of going with 96GB—so two 48 sticks and upgrade later if need be.

I'm conscious of using RAM in the QVL for the boards I'm thinking of getting; the max is only 2x48 for both, See:

- https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-X870E-CARBON-WIFI/support#mem Slice Master

The number of slots on these boards is 4 and the ASUS supports up to 192GB and the MSI 256GB so will probably get the MSI as ASUS's Armoury Crate is horrific and I feel they are slipping a bit with the BIOS side of things! MSI's looks really good.

The processor I'm getting will be the 9950X. Not sure if I should wait for the 9950X3d now!!

EDIT: Won't be getting the 3Xd, not needed. Good thread here: https://community.amd.com/t5/pc-processors/is-x3d-important-for-modeling-vfx-and-rendering-professionals/m-p/695209
Thank you for sharing.  In short, X3D CPUs' increased cache improves gaming performance but not productivity/professional apps, where clock speed and core count are critical.  For example, a Threadripper 7960X has 128MB of L3 cache for all 24 cores (5.3MB/core), whereas a 7950X3D has 64MB for 16 cores and an additional 64MB for 8 gaming cores.  (12MB per gaming core).

Hi!
I am having diverse luck with the Create Boundary Spline. Sometimes it works great, but other times it creates just two straight splines, or sometimes just the firt selected bounddary shape.
Does it have something to do with the base geometry coordinates? I cant find any pattern for the behaviour.
Thanks in advance!
