Forest Pro (*) / Re: Vraydistancetex used as mask for displacement - not working

I've just found this topic. I'm guessing this is the same issue. I've made sure that the forest object is set to 0,0,0...it already was, so I still have the problem.

Forest Pro (*) / Vraydistancetex used as mask for displacement - not working
« Last post by steve3duk on April 14, 2024, 11:36:24 PM »
I'm using the above setup. I have a composite displacement map with multiple displacements affecting different areas of a fairly large terrain.

I also have a road going through the terrain. I'm using vraydistancetex to graduate the ground displacement up to the road. This works with the displacement but the effect - follow displace surface (vray) is not working completely. When I use the vraydistancetex as a mask it is looking like it is completely ignored.

Any ideas why this is happening? Is it because it is only a render time effect? Would there be another way of doing this?

Hi,

Thank you so much for your suggestion. We will evaluate its implementation, but let me mention that the current workflow is quite complex, both for internal handling and for the user interface, and it may bring several issues, so it's hard to say if it could be integrated somehow at the moment. Additionally, compatibility might be a problem. Anyway, thanks a lot for your feedback; it's very important to us.

On the other hand, the double-click selection is something that should be done easily.

Best regards,

Hi,

We will see what can be done in future version(s), keeping in mind what we have mentioned in this related post: "... our intention would be to try to simplify the UI, as it already might look for some users quite complex. Currently, it's possible to archive it easily by using two Forest objects ...".

Apart from having two individual Forest objects, you can "duplicate" used items, scale them as needed, and use the Select models feature to pick corresponding items for such a Spline Areas or using the Effects feature for these purposes.

Best regards,

And it would be great to be able to double-click on an object/surface/area to select it (also like in ChaosScatter).

Thanks Morne. I just moved that post to the Forest Pro board.
It was archived because we usually clean posts of the beta forum, when a new beta starts.

Thanks Carlos

Hi, could it be possible to edit items and not disable Area/Distribution parameters like Chaos Scatter does?

Hi there, right now we can scale by area but only with falloff, long ago this was requested as a new feature, I want to bring this again hoping that this could be added.

Hi Michal,
Sorry for digging out the old thread but I finally found time to prepare the example scene file.
The issue still seem to exist after we updated to Max 2024 and newest Pulze RM 2.2.1
I've just sent you an email with all the details.
Let me know if you need anything else please.
Thanks,
Michal
