Forest Pro (*) / CRASH while rendering after excluding Forest Object from VRayExtraText
« Last post by IH3888 on October 15, 2018, 05:11:44 PM »
Rendering crash every time i have excluded a Forest object from a pass of rendering...

The pass in which i excluded Forest is a VRayExtraText pass for me to add occlusion to my rendering in which i removed the forests.
I added a dirt map to the texture, and exclude the forest.
In the precedents version it was ok, no crashes, now it doens't work...

i suppose i could create an edge loop around a 3d surface where it meets the path, say the first 2 - 3ft of elevation change and oh, that's where my question of the idea of using this on surfaces comes from ha.  ok i'll find a way to make it work. otherwise that's a great tutorial since my renderer won't work with edge mode.

spline distributions can't be 3d - only xy, not z.  unless that's changed?

That is how it works. Not likely it will ever change.

thanks!  yep i create spline areas like that all the time!  mostly for excluding.  although i did just learn about using geometry as object exlusion which is great!!!  i just select the border of a sidewalk and pull it down a few inches and then use it as an exclude object.  way easier to update the shape of the sidewalk without having to create a new spline area!

anwyay, i'll give this a try but i don't think it will work in all cases.  the reasosn i asked about this working with surfaces is that spline distributions can't be 3d - only xy, not z.  unless that's changed?

thanks.  jeez, i forget that a forest object can be used just like any other object.

General - Off Topic / Rendering question
« Last post by IT1371 on October 14, 2018, 02:07:40 PM »
So I'm in the field for a few years by now. My works are okay and i'm semi-happy about them and clients are satisfied.
But when I see stuff like this:
http://www.polymachine.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/ESK_project2_camera11_.jpg
I get very confused. How do they make this look so good?

I have the same whatever models and we probably even use the same set of plugins and HDRIs.
How do they get such results? I read tons of literature, try new stuff but yet I feel like i'm missing on something.
Is there some magic button I ignore all this time?

Hi

Yes- There is guide for ForestPack Too.

Regarding distribution maps it is not that interesting. They are installed with every ForestPack install at default location:
C:\Program Files\Itoo Software\Forest Pack Pro\distmaps\images

Which should be the same in all render nodes, right ?

Hi Rokas,
thanks for your help.
I followed the guide and updated the registry keys on one of our machines. It worked. The RC library is now on our network drive.
Is there a similar solution for forest pack? So I could do this for all users on a machine (and on all our machines) without logging in into every user's account?
This is specifically interesting for the path of forest's distance maps.

Thanks again and best regards
Wojtek

Do you have any script to convert such maps quickly. is there any workaround?
Funny thing is they are providing ready forest library.

You should be assigning material per each object in material slot in ForestPack settings:
