RailClone Pro (*) / empty segment and sequence problem
« Last post by manel_reig on July 22, 2021, 10:18:58 PM »
Hello,

I have a problem when trying to use an "empty segment". The sequence node seems to not respond correctly to it. When I use a segment with geometry everything works as expected, but when I try it with an empty segment it does not work. The sequence is two elements 1 time each element. With the "empty segment" I get 2 and 1. See image attached:

I guess the error comes from the empty segment...I tried giving measurement to Fixed size and padding and none seems to work. How do I set an empty segment properly?

thank you

hello Paul,

thanks for the answer.

Sadly for what you say I think the only possibility to achive what I want (continuity on mapping coordinates on final railclone object) it is to map the railclone object afterwards.

The original object is already mapped in a way that A and B surface do not share same mapping coordinates. But then, the resulting railclone object obviously has no continuity on the UVW mapping coordinates. I always have to map the railclone objects afterwards, but I was just trying to see if there is a way to not waste time on that and let railclone do the mapping.

Randomaizing coordinates by element is also no solution, as I am trying to get continuity on the mapping coordinates. Also using the "box mapping" on each element should do the trick, but with that I get same coordinates on both surfaces...so the question is, is there a way to achieve continuity and different UVW mapping coordinates in both surfaces?

EDIT:
ok, I realised that that happens when the elemnt in question is aligned in "bottom" on the y axes...if it is center, they share half of them and "top" are different, at least for this element size ::)

BOTTOM

CENTER

FRONT

any ideas?

thank you

RailClone Pro (*) / max segments warning - but I'm below limits
« Last post by Rio on July 22, 2021, 05:20:25 PM »
I keep getting the max segments warrning on this object, but stats tells me it's well below the limits I have set - 1380/50000

Am I totally misunderstanding what it's telling me?

Forest Pro (*) / Re: Distribution along Path - Select models per spline

Sure. Probably the most common example of this feature use would be in scattering hanging and edging plants along the edge of planter or wall when it goes around the building or some site features/landscape elements and need some natural irregularity in scattering to look more realistic.
The only work around we found atm is to include empty (disabled objects into geometry list to add some visual gaps. but it's not always easy to achieve the result you want and also pretty hard to control.
So to have a simple feature to set random offset values along the path would make it easier to control and it also can be used in combination with disabled objects to add even more variation.

Cheers

No problem. Out of interest, what are you trying to do with this feature? I'm curious to know whether RailClone could be used, and what might be missing to make it suitable.

Yep, that solved everything.
For some reason my corner jumps from one state to another when I edit the spline, but it's fine, I can deal with that...

Thank you, Paul!

Would be also great to have an option to randomize distribution spacing along the path.

ATM the only solution we found is to use Translation transform, but it would apply translation based on the axis direction (X,Y or Z) and not the spline direction (in situations when spline is curved or have angled or perpendicular sections going in different directions)

Thanks

Hi.

Thanks for the suggestion, that sounds like a good idea but unfortunately, the Spline mode doesn't evaluate properties on a per spline basis, only globally, so it would require some deep changes. The ability to access material IDs in Forest Effects may be easier though, we'll add it to our wishlist and investigate if it can be implemented for a future update.

Many thanks,
Paul

Hi iToo team,

Would it be possible to add to the future versions option to distribute selected objects along individual splines within one Forest Pack object when using Path mode for Distribution?
The same way as it works with Areas when you can select which models you want to be included in each individual area.
But when we use Distribution Mode as Path there is only Geom ID option (Random or Sequence) which applies to all selected spline.

Other potential option might be to assign specific models based on spline segment Material ID?
Similar way as it works in RailClone when different Generators can be applied to different spline segments based on Material ID within single RailClone object.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the question. The UVW XForm operator is designed to randomise the rotation, tiling and offset of UVW on a per-segment basis. I'm afraid it isn't possible to adjust UVWs per face, element or material ID. One solution therefore might be to adjust the UVW mapping on the base geometry so that A and B don't share the same UVW coordinates. In that way, you can still use the UVW Offset operator to randomise the offset if that's what you'd like to achieve.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have further questions
